Adam Burnett’s New Play, Nightmares

This was the first podcast that I produced, more than a year ago. I had three hours of interview audio to work with, and spent nearly six hours editing it. Adam Burnett was so visibly and audibly passionate about the play he had written, and I felt like it was my responsibility to communicate that in the podcast. It was easy to delve deeply into the information, and the end result was very rewarding. I still think it is one of my best pieces.

“On Facebook,” an editorial

One of the only editorials I’ve written for As Heard From the Hill. I’ve found that audio production is often a balancing act between the two extremes of letting the subject tell the whole story, and narrating the story yourself. This story is very much the latter. Obviously, the subject matter resonates with me deeply… and the radio medium allows the listener to sense how much I care about what I’m saying. It’s in my voice.

“Salt,” a Radio Essay

Broadcast 2/3/10, this essay describes my reaction to the Israel Birthright trip I took over winter break, 2009-2010, my senior year at KU.

Aye Aye Nu, at Juniper Gardens

This was the culminating project for my Media and the Environment class. I worked with a group of four fellow students, and we all interviewed animmigrant farmer working near Kansas City. In this case, I tried to let the subject tell the whole story… although she spoke in a broken English, I think the essentials are easy to understand. The work we did was contributed to the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture, to help publicize the annual Farm Tour. Below, see also a transcription of the podcast, accompanied by photos of Aye Aye.
